The Devil Wears Prada
Lauren Weisberger
Beware of the devil.
Ten years ago, every girl in the
world wants to be like Andrea Sachs, got a job at the most prestigious fashion magazine
in the world, Runway. A job who million girls would die for. Being a second
assistant of Miranda Priestly, editor in chief of Runway, the fashion guru, the
most powerful woman in publishing industry, and also The Devil.
Andrea Sachs, 23 years old, a
fresh graduate who wants to be a writer at The New Yorker or something like
that finally landed at Runway, being a second assistant. Shes’n not into
fashion. She didn’t understand every single thing about fashion. She did it
because every people at Runway promise her that this is the best chance to
improve herself, a job who million girls would die for, and after that, Andy
get the opportunity to take a job wherever she wants.
Sounds promising, isn’t it?
Until she met the Devil, the
ultimate Miranda Priestly.
And the rest of the history. One year
experience full of ups and downs until Andy finally realizes that she becomes a
mini-Miranda.
I’m pretty sure all of you know
that story.
Setelah sukses dengan novel
pertamanya ini, Lauren Weisberger menempatkan dirinya sebagai salah satu
penulis chicklit paling berpengaruh saat ini. Title The #1 New York Times Best
Selling selalu melekat di setiap bukunya (finally, I have all of that,
including Revenge Wears Prada, the sequel). Belum lagi kesuksesan ini berlanjut
setelah diangkat jadi film.
First of all—for thousands times—I
want to say that I looooove LW. She always fulfill my needs to a story about
urban woman and her life. Gue pernah baca terjemahannya tapi ketika gue membaca
versi Inggris buku LW—waktu itu Chasing Harry Winston—I fall for her. I love
her detail. Her writing style. Lugas, deksriptif, witty and real. Ini yang
nggak gue dapet di terjemahan jadi ketika gue baca The Devil Wears Prada di
bahasa aslinya, I have a good experience.
Oke, gue akui gue baca ini sebagai
antisipasi terbitnya Revenge Wears Prda awal Juni 2013 ini.
Okay, back to the book. Ceritanya sudah
hafal pasti ya. Tapi… berkaca ke filmnya, alurnya beda banget. Rempongnya kerjaan
Andy—dan sebagian besar nggak penting—lebih terasa. Cara Lauren menggambarkan
Miranda itu benar-benar sempurna—dan setelah MP, hampir setiap tokoh
berpengaruh di majalah fashion mengikut dia. Memang sih tokoh utamanya Andy,
tapi gue lebih suka sama MP. Dan Meryl Strepp benar-benar perfect sebagai the
ultimate MP.
Ketika gue membaca buku LW yang
lain, heroine-nya hampir sama semua. A lil bit polos dan baik, dan punya
fabulous sidekick—formula LW—dan nggak mandiri, I mean selalu butuh nasihat orang
terdekatnya even untuk masalah sepele sekalipun.
she realizes that she doesn’t want to be like her boss.
Fuck you, Miranda. Go fuck yourself.
Yess, this is Andy’s statemen line
yang membuatnya jadi bulan-bulanan Page Six setelah pemecatan di Paris.
You remind me of myself when I was your age.
This is Miranda’s line who make
Andy think about her life.
Afterall, I love this story meski
favorit gue tetap Chasing Harry Winstone. And now, I’m ready to read Revenge
Wears Prada, fresh from the oven, and still about Andy and her life. When Andy
realize that she’s going to be like Miranda. Being The Devil.
Dan ucapan Miranda sepuluh tahun
lalu itu cukup terbukti. Aaakkk… nggak sabar.
PS: Dan The Ultimate MP sebagai penggambaran The Ultimate AW semakin menjadi-jadi hihi
Minta copy an terjemahannya bole ga ? Makasih
